โ[This work] has uncovered a lot for me as a 360 human, not just as a therapist.โ
โWhatever Iโve learned so far, Iโve been able to immediately take it into my sessions. Itโs changed how I show up for clients.โ
Youโve become extraordinarily good
at what you do.
Youโve invested years becoming the clinician you are. Your colleagues trust you. Your clients come to you with complicated things. Youโve built work youโre proud of.
Youโve done the trainings, the certifications, your own therapy. You understand your patterns better than most.
And you have an appetite for more.
You donโt need more information. You need to use EVERYTHING you already know.
You can hire a marketing team.
Refine your website.
Do 17 more trainings.
But if thereโs a gap between who you are and who you need to be, your clients wonโt shift. And neither will you.
Who this is for
This is for you if everything looks beautiful on paper.
But the life youโve built doesnโt feel as good as it shouldโand you want to understand why.
This is for the therapist whoโs still hungry. Who knows the next breakthrough starts with her. It isnโt for the faint-hearted: get ready to shed some tears, break your heart open, and meet your own needs in the best way possible.
Thatโs why I created
The Death of the Good Therapist.
A five-day identity experience
The Death of the Good TherapistNovember 16โ20, 2026This is an identity-level shift. You let the Good Therapist go and become who you are meant to be. And it ripples into every room you walk into: your sessions, your leadership, your love and your life.
And it isnโt just getting clear on who youโre becoming. Over five days, I guide you through transformational work, experiences and reflections that leave you with a real shift, one you carry into your next session, your leadership, your love and your life.
Different symptoms. Same hidden gap.
- The therapist who keeps carrying a clientโs treatment.
- The practice owner whose team still depends on her for every difficult decision.
- The educator with an idea she canโt quite stand behind.
- The woman who understands exactly whatโs happening in her relationshipโand still responds in ways sheโs long since outgrown.
What if the problem isnโt what you know, but the identity youโre operating from?
You can know exactly what needs to change. And still not be able to change it.
You see it with clients all the time. She knows why she keeps choosing unavailable partners. She can trace the attachment patterns, name the protectors, tell you exactly where it began. And yet, there she is. In another relationship that looks painfully familiar.
Insight hasnโt become a new way of living.
The identity that got you here wasnโt a mistake. It may have helped you build a remarkable practice, become a trusted clinician, and create a life youโre deeply proud of.
But what helped you become who you are isnโt necessarily what will help you become who youโre ready to be.
Thatโs the Identity Gap.
The distance between the identity that helped you build your success and the identity your next chapter requires.
From the Good Therapist
to the Exemplary Therapist.
The Good Therapist became successful through training, effort, responsibility and competence. The Exemplary Therapist has something else.
She knows what matters in the room. Her clients go deeper, and the breakthroughs hold.
Her presence does the work before she says a word. Clients, teams and colleagues feel it.
She is clear on who she is for. The right clients find her, and the work stops draining her.
She is surrounded by mentors and peers, so she never carries the hardest cases alone.
Her energy comes back. There is more of her for her own life.
Not losing who you are. Finally becoming her.
When the identity shifts, it ripples everywhere
This is what shifts.
You see what other therapists miss. Your edges are wider, so you can hold the rupture, the shame, the part that wants to leave, and your clients go deeper because you can.
Clients choose you for how it feels to sit across from you. Your confidence and self-trust are felt before you say a word.
You are comfortable being seen. You speak with the authority you already have: in the room, on the page, in front of your field.
You stay warm and hold the edge. You guide the work instead of following it, and you move with whatever the session brings.
You protect them, and there is still energy in you when you walk through your own front door.
You are fully at your own kitchen table, laughing from your belly. Your life feels expansive, with room for your own dreams.
They land at your doorstep: the book, the bigger room, the waitlist. They find you because you are in alignment with who you are.
Itโs the same nervous system. The way you hold a client is the way you hold everything.
Meet your host ยท Why Iโm teaching this
Esther Goldstein, LCSW
Iโve spent my career helping therapists go deeper clinically. And the breakthrough that changed everything for me wasnโt clinical. It was who I was being.

My story
I had everything Iโd dreamed of.
And I had built it from a wound.
A group practice of nine clinicians. Thirty clients a week. A family I loved. I loved what I had built. But it felt heavy, and I had outgrown the version of me who built it.
So I did what the good therapist does. I looked for the next thing to learn. I paid a consultant $2,000 for one hour, and they looked at me and asked:
โCould you just focus on yourself and your family?โ
It was never about knowing more. So I stopped adding trainings and did the soul work, the identity-level work: deep inner work, somatic, in my body. I went through my own ego death. A version of me had to die so the next one could live.
And everything shifted. I became someone who could hold it all in a way that felt good: with dinner times, without people-pleasing, with a team that was happy to be there.
I didnโt need to build a different life. I needed to become capable of living differently inside it.
That is how I facilitate. I mirror back the identity running your work, and help you shift it from the inside, not just understand it.
This week shows you the gap. Trauma Mastery is where you become the therapist who closes it, again and again.
How the five days are delivered
Monday: Live session with me, 12:00โ1:00 PM ET
TuesdayโThursday: A guided audio drops in Telegram at 12:00 PM ET. Listen when it works for you.
Friday: Live closing call with me, 12:00โ1:00 PM ET
Each day, youโll bring one question directly into your own clinical work, leadership, and life.
By Friday, youโll have your Identity Gap Map: who you have been, what it has cost you, and who you are becoming.
Five days to see what you may have been too close to recognize.
In how you lead, how you love, and how you live.
The Identity Gap
Where are you operating from now?
The over-responsible clinician. The wounded healer. The overfunctioner. The rescuer. The overperformer. The one who overworks so no one questions whether she belongs. The one who earns belonging by taking care of everyone. The one who must never disappoint anyone. The one so capable, so prepared, that no one could question her.
Your discovery: The identity that built your success, and where it stops.
Boundaries and Alignment
Who are you truly available for?
The client you keep saying yes to. The exception you keep making. The energy you give away before the day begins.
Your discovery: What youโre ready to stop carrying.
Clinical Leadership
What are you facilitating, and what are you carrying?
What happens when youโre working harder than the person youโre trying to help?
Your discovery: One client youโre ready to lead differently.
Mentorship and Environment
What changes when you stop doing it alone?
The difficult treatment decision. The message youโve been softening. The room you havenโt stepped into yet.
Your discovery: The support your next level requires.
Becoming the Exemplary Therapist
Who are you becoming?
Everything youโve discovered comes together: how you lead, how you love, and how you live.
Your discovery: Your Identity Gap Map, and who you are becoming.
Ego death is the advanced class.
By Friday, your next chapter
will be on one page.
Youโll be able to see:
- The pattern you keep repeating.
- The identity you learned to become.
- What that identity may be quietly costing you.
- What a different capacity could make available.
- Who you are becoming, in therapy, in love and in leadership.
- How youโll live it, from Monday on.
You wonโt leave with five more things to work on. Youโll leave seeing yourself clearly, with a lived sense of who you are becoming, and a room full of therapists who see you.
What this looks like
โI feel really confident in the work that Iโm doing with clients. But to feel like you have something to say is different. I think itโs like the stepping into the leadership.โ

โTruly, this experience has changed my life. Esther has changed my life.โ
โMy income and my income potential has almost doubled since starting with Esther.โ
A client of Estherโs. Individual results vary.
โIโm usually the therapist everyone else comes to.โฆ Itโs genuinely making me better, in my work and as a mentor.โ
โIโve done a lot of trainings, but Iโd never found a home where everything connected.โฆ I finally felt like Iโd found a place where all the pieces made sense.โ
Teresa was capable and caring, and carrying more than she realized. What changed wasnโt more techniques. It was how she holds the work.
โNow when my workday ends, it actually ends.โ
โIโm more present with the people I love.โ
